This workshop addresses the association between mental health and obesity from both adult and pediatric perspectives. It identifies and explains the difference in treatment approach when working with each of these populations. During this workshop, facilitators will introduce and explain mental health approaches used to target patient engagement as well as cognitive and behavioral patterns that may interfere with physical health and emotional wellbeing. Training related to interdisciplinary communication, care plan development, and patient advocacy will be included. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to practice skills introduced by facilitators. Case scenarios and role-plays will be used. Resources and practitioner tools used to support patients experiencing co-occurring obesity and mental health conditions will be provided.
